Syllabus

Description

Blogs and other social tools facilitate multimedia Web publishing, encourage networking and give language learners the opportunity to go beyond the closed and controlled learning environments of the conventional ELT classroom. As learners participate in the network at large, they enjoy the pedagogical benefits afforded by social media. By sharing their writing and other artifacts, they improve their language skills in personally relevant communicative exchanges and acquire self-directed learning strategies.

Objective

Social Media in ELT offers practical guidance on using a set of freely available services and software applications. It also aims to develop a critically reflected understanding of these technologies, focusing on their use and implications in language teaching. There will be weekly readings and questions for discussion and reflection.

Target Audience

There will be a pre-session survey before you enroll so as to help you and us determine your level and needs.

This advanced EVO 08 session will run from January 14th to February 24th 2008. It is aimed at teachers who have already experimented with blogs, wikis and other webpublishing tools either on their own or with classes and would like to review and extend their technical and pedagogical knowledge to help learners create meaninful content, interact with the web at large and create networks according to their own interests.
